AC Repair in Dubai

When an AC stops cooling, leaks water or trips the breaker, the fix depends on the fault, not the brand. Message us photos of the unit and any error code, and we coordinate the earliest available partner technician to diagnose and repair it.

AC repair in Dubai: what we coordinate and how a fault gets diagnosed

If you need AC repair in Dubai, message us on WhatsApp with your area and a photo of the unit. We coordinate the earliest available partner technician, who diagnoses the fault before quoting for repair. Most calls fall into a handful of faults: not cooling, water leaking, ice on the coil, noise, tripping or a smell.

Dubai Service Hub is a coordination service. The repair itself is done by independent partner technicians we vet and send, not by our own staff, and the quote you approve is for the fault the technician actually finds.

Match your symptom to the likely cause

This table is a guide for what to tell us, not a diagnosis. Several faults share a symptom, which is why a technician needs to look before quoting.

What you see Common causes Safe to run it?
Runs but does not cool Dirty filter or coil, low refrigerant from a leak, failed capacitor, compressor not starting Briefly, on fan mode only if unsure
Water dripping from indoor unit Blocked condensate drain, frozen coil thawing, tilted unit No, switch off
Ice on the pipes or coil Restricted airflow, low refrigerant, faulty fan No, switch off and let it thaw
Loud rattle, grinding or squeal Loose panel, failing fan bearing, motor wear No, if it is grinding
Humming outdoors but not starting Failed capacitor or stuck compressor No
Breaker keeps tripping Short in a component, failed compressor, wiring fault No, leave breaker off
Musty or burning smell Mould in the tray or coil, or electrical overheating Burning smell: no
Remote or display not responding Batteries, thermostat or control board (PCB) fault Yes, but it may not control properly

A burning smell, a breaker that will not stay on or visible sparking are electrical safety problems. Turn the unit off and do not keep resetting it.

What to send on WhatsApp so the first visit is productive

The better the information, the more likely the technician arrives with the right part.

  1. A photo of the indoor unit and, if you can, the outdoor unit.
  2. A photo of the model plate. It is usually a label on the side or under the front panel of the indoor unit, and on the side of the outdoor unit.
  3. Any error code or blinking pattern on the display, with a note of how many blinks if it flashes.
  4. A short video or photo of the fault if it is visible: water, ice, a noisy fan.
  5. Your area and building type, and whether it is a split, ducted or chiller-building system.
  6. What changed: it stopped after a power cut, it started leaking after a service, it has been getting worse over weeks.

Do not open the unit or remove panels yourself, and never touch refrigerant lines.

What happens on a repair visit

A sensible repair visit follows a diagnose-then-quote order.

Diagnosis. The technician checks the symptom, filter, airflow, drain, coil condition, fan operation, electrical supply and, where relevant, refrigerant pressure with gauges.

Explanation and quote. The technician explains the fault and what it needs: a cleaning, a part, a leak repair or something bigger. You get the scope and cost before work begins. If you are a tenant, this is the point to loop in your landlord if the repair is likely to be significant.

Repair and test. The fault is fixed, the unit is run, and the temperature drop, drain flow and noise are checked.

What a repair visit is not. Fixing a single fault is not a full service. If the coils are filthy but the failure is a capacitor, you may still want a maintenance visit afterwards. See AC maintenance for planned servicing.

Common AC faults in Dubai homes

Not cooling. The most common call in summer. Dust and heat load clog filters and coils quickly, and a unit working at its limit shows up weaknesses such as a tired capacitor or a slow refrigerant leak. If the filter and coil are clean and it still blows warm, the cause is usually electrical or refrigerant related.

Water leaking. Humid air produces a lot of condensate, and a blocked drain line backs it up into the room. A frozen coil dripping as it thaws looks identical. Either way the unit should be turned off before a ceiling or wall is damaged.

Ice on the coil. Ice means the coil is getting too cold for the airflow across it. Causes include a dirty filter, a failing blower or low refrigerant. Chipping the ice off does not fix it; the cause has to be found.

Noise. Rattling is often a loose panel or debris. Squealing or grinding usually points to a fan bearing or motor. A hum outdoors without the fan starting is a classic capacitor problem.

Tripping. A single trip after a power surge is not unusual. Repeated tripping means a component or the wiring is drawing too much current. Leave the breaker off and have it checked; our electrician coordination covers wiring faults that sit outside the AC unit itself.

Smell. Musty smells often come from the drain tray or coil and respond to a coil clean. If the smell comes from the grilles of a ducted system, the ductwork may also need attention, see AC duct cleaning.

Remote, thermostat or control board faults. A unit that does not respond or shows an error may have a failed sensor, thermostat or control board (PCB). These are usually part replacements, and the model plate matters because boards are specific to the unit.

Compressor, capacitor and refrigerant leaks. A capacitor is a small, relatively routine part. A refrigerant leak means the leak must be located and repaired; topping up gas repeatedly without fixing the leak only delays the same call. A compressor is the big-ticket component and the one that drives repair-or-replace decisions.

Split, ducted and chiller-building systems

Split units are the easiest to diagnose: one indoor unit and one outdoor condenser per zone, usually reachable from the room and a balcony or external wall. Faults are mostly isolated to one unit.

Ducted or central systems, common in villas, involve an air handler in a ceiling void or cupboard, a larger outdoor unit and ductwork. A fault affects the whole zone, and access can take longer. If one room is weak while others are fine, the cause may be a damper or duct, not the unit.

Chilled-water buildings supply cold water from a central plant to a fan coil unit in your apartment. The fan coil, thermostat and drain are usually your side; the plant and chilled-water supply are usually the building’s. A fan coil that blows warm may be a building supply issue, so check with building management before paying for a repair.

Repair or replace?

Repair makes sense when:

  • the unit is mid-life and the fault is a part such as a capacitor, fan motor, sensor or drain;
  • the fix is clearly less than the cost of a new unit;
  • the unit has been serviced regularly and has no history of repeat failures.

Think about replacing when:

  • the compressor has failed on an older unit;
  • the same leak keeps returning after repair;
  • repairs have become an annual summer event;
  • the unit is undersized for the room and cannot hold temperature on hot days.

For the full decision framework see AC not cooling: repair or replace. Ask for any major repair quote in writing so you can compare it with replacement cost.

What affects the quote

We do not publish fixed repair prices because the fault decides the cost. These are the main drivers:

  • The fault and the part: a drain flush, capacitor, fan motor, PCB, leak repair and compressor sit in very different cost bands.
  • System type: a ducted or central system is usually more involved than a split unit.
  • Access: a high balcony, a roof condenser, a ceiling-void air handler or a building that needs access permission all add time.
  • Refrigerant work: finding and repairing a leak takes longer than adding gas.
  • Parts availability: older or less common units can need parts sourced, which affects timing.
  • Callout timing and building requirements: some buildings require advance notice or a permit for contractors.

The partner technician confirms the scope and price before work starts, so you can decline if it does not suit.

How to judge a repair provider (instead of trusting a “best” list)

Searches for the best AC repair in Dubai return rankings that are mostly paid or self-published. You are better off asking the provider these questions:

  • Do they diagnose before quoting? A provider who quotes a refrigerant top-up over the phone has not found anything yet.
  • Is the scope written down, with parts and labour listed?
  • Do they explain the fault in plain terms and show you the failed part if one is replaced?
  • Is there a stated warranty on the repair and any parts fitted?
  • Do they respect the building: access rules, tidy work, no mess left behind?
  • Can they tell you what they will not do? An honest provider tells you when a repair is not worth it.

When you probably do not need a repair visit

  • The remote has flat batteries or is set to the wrong mode.
  • The filter is clogged: a wash can restore airflow, and a service covers it properly.
  • A room is simply too hot for a small unit on an extreme day.
  • The breaker tripped once after a power cut and the unit now works.
  • The building’s chilled-water supply is off: ask management first.

If the unit works but is dusty and has not been serviced for months, book AC maintenance rather than a repair, and see how often AC should be serviced in Dubai. Not sure which you need? Read AC repair or AC maintenance: which do you need.

What is not included

  • Full planned servicing, unless you ask for it as a separate visit.
  • Replacement units, unless you request a replacement quote.
  • Building-side faults such as the chilled-water plant, riser or main electrical supply.
  • Landlord-owned repairs that need landlord approval before work.

Before the technician arrives

Clear access to the indoor unit and, if needed, the outdoor unit. Move furniture away from the wall unit, keep pets in another room and have the model plate photo ready. In an apartment building, tell management a contractor is coming if they require notice. Switch the unit off if it is dripping, icing or smelling of burning.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my AC running but not cooling in Dubai?
The usual causes are a clogged filter or dirty coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed outdoor-unit capacitor, a frozen evaporator coil, or a compressor that is not starting. A technician can often narrow it down during the visit. Switch the unit off if you see ice on the pipes or water dripping, because running it in that state can make the repair bigger.
What is the best AC repair company in Dubai?
No honest ranking exists, so judge providers on what you can check. Ask whether they diagnose before quoting, whether they give a written scope with parts listed, whether they explain the fault in plain terms, and whether the work carries a stated warranty period. Be wary of any quote that names a refrigerant top-up without looking for the leak first.
How does AC repair pricing work?
A quote is driven by the fault, the part, the system type and access. A capacitor or drain fix is a small job; a compressor, PCB or leak repair is not. We do not publish fixed prices because the fault decides the cost. Send photos and the model plate, and the partner technician confirms the scope before work starts.
Should I repair or replace my AC?
Repair when the unit is mid-life and the fault is a part such as a capacitor, fan motor, sensor or drain. Think about replacement when the compressor has failed on an older unit, when the same leak keeps returning, or when repairs recur every summer. Ask for the quote in writing so you can compare it with the cost of a new unit.
What should I send on WhatsApp for an AC repair?
A photo of the indoor unit, a photo of the model and serial plate, a short video or photo of the fault if it is visible (water, ice, display), any error code on the display, your area, and whether it is a split, ducted or chiller-building unit. That lets the technician bring the likely parts on the first visit.
Is the AC repair covered by my landlord or the building?
It depends on your tenancy contract and on whose equipment it is. In many buildings the landlord handles major repairs while tenants handle routine servicing, and in chilled-water buildings the central plant is the building's responsibility. Check your contract and tell the landlord or building management before you authorise work.
Is AC repair different from AC maintenance?
Yes. Maintenance is planned servicing to stop faults forming; repair is diagnosis and fixing after a fault has appeared. A repair visit usually includes checking why it failed, but it is not a full service. If your unit works but is neglected, book a service instead.
Can I leave my AC running while waiting for a technician?
Not if there is ice on the unit, water pouring out, a burning smell, or the breaker keeps tripping. Turn it off at the unit and, for a tripping breaker, leave the breaker off. If it is simply cooling poorly, it is generally safe to run it on fan mode, which can help a frozen coil thaw.
